New Year's time capsule

A New Year's time capsule that opens next New Year

Write down where you are tonight — the plans, the worries, the people around the table — and seal it on a brick on the Wall of Forever. It stays shut until the day you pick, then opens for everyone, exactly as you wrote it.

Seal your brick

Why a New Year's time capsule beats a resolution

Resolutions are about who you mean to be. A New Year's time capsule is about who you are right now: the job you are hoping for, the flat you can't afford yet, the friend who just moved away, the song that was everywhere. A year later, that is the part you will want to read.

A time capsule brick holds it on an endless wall, with its own link. Until the day it opens, the wall shows only its wax seal and the date; you can look inside yourself whenever you like, but nobody else can. When the day comes, the seal breaks and it opens for everyone.

How it works

  • Write it. A few lines, a photo from tonight, the names of everyone there.
  • Pick the day. Next New Year's Day, the first day of 2030, or any day up to fifty years away.
  • Seal it. From then on it can't be changed: a fingerprint on its page and on your certificate shows that what opens is exactly what you sealed.
  • It opens. We email you on the day. Anyone else can ask the brick for one reminder — just an email address, no account.

What to seal for next New Year

  • Where you are

The job, the flat, the city, tonight.

  • Three guesses

What will have changed by next year? Write them down.

  • The people at the table

Every name, and one line about each.

  • The song of the year

    Title only — you'll know.

  • A photo

    Midnight, slightly blurred.

  • A note to next year

Kind, honest and a little bit hopeful.

On the wall

Sealed until the day you pick

Until it opens, the wall shows the wax seal and the opening date — nothing else. On the day, the words appear for everyone, with a line saying when they were sealed.

Seal one every New Year, and each opens as the next is written.

For you, or for the whole family

Writing only to yourself? A letter to your future self is the same seal, addressed to you. If you would rather it opened only for your people and never for the public, use a private brick. Every way to seal a brick is side by side under Sealed messages.

Write your time capsule

Tonight, in a few lines. You pick the day it opens on the next step.

Your brick

1 brick · €9

Each brick you add is €2, and past 6 just €1 — bigger bricks cost less per brick

Nothing is charged until you have chosen its spot.

When can it open?

On any day you choose, from tomorrow to fifty years away. For a New Year time capsule, that is usually next New Year's Day.

Can I read it before it opens?

Yes. You can look inside your own brick whenever you like. Nobody else can until it opens.

Can I change it after sealing it?

No. Once sealed, a brick can't be changed — a fingerprint on its page and on your certificate proves it.

Can I give it as a gift?

No. Sealed bricks can't be sent as gifts: place it yourself and share the link.

Who can read it once it opens?

Anyone. The wall is public, and an opened time capsule can be read by anyone who finds it. Write what you would be glad to share.

How much is it?

€9 for the brick and €4 for the seal, paid once.
